Which day this month will have the most of downtown Walker open at once? Saturday. Every downtown shop and restaurant in the Leech Lake Area Chamber's directory that's open this season keeps Saturday hours. Several of them close Sunday through Tuesday. The Chamber has built its November around that pattern. Its holiday shopping calendar opens on deer opener Saturday, November 7, rather than on Thanksgiving weekend, and its biggest promotion runs all the way to December 31.
If you live near Walker, here's the month in order, with the hours that decide when each part is worth the trip downtown.
Saturday, November 7: Bingo Cards and a Last Stop at Portage
The Chamber calls it the Up North Does Hunt, a "Social Shopping Club Experience" in Walker on the Saturday of deer hunting opener weekend. The idea is simple. Some shops, restaurants and businesses serve as official Hunt Stops. You pick up a bingo card at a participating business, look for the hidden does, and collect stamps as you go.
All completed cards go to one place. Drop yours at Portage Brewing Company to enter the Does Hunt Giveaway, which the Chamber values at $500, and the entry is good on Saturday, November 7 only. Portage is at 107 5th St. S. On Fridays and Saturdays its taproom is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., so you can shop all day and still turn in your card after the stores close. The Chamber's calendar shows the event as all day. It's pitched as a day for friends to shop together while the hunters are out in the woods. Updates are on the Does Hunt Facebook event page.
Two things to know before you park. The City of Walker has closed the City Park and downtown public restrooms for the off-season. And two Minnesota Avenue stops from summer won't be part of a November loop. The Chamber's Walker Now directory lists both Angry Donkey Bakery at 407 Minnesota Ave. and WineDown at 411 Minnesota Ave. W., Suite A, as "Closed for the Season."
Downtown's Week Now Runs Wednesday Through Saturday
The calendar leans on Saturdays because of how downtown's hours are set right now. Two Minnesota Avenue shops have posted winter hours. Lundrigans Clothing at 501 Minnesota Ave. and Walker General Store at 507 Minnesota Ave. W. are both open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sunday through Tuesday. A few other spots in the directory follow a similar Wednesday-start week.
Here's how the hours in the Leech Lake Area Chamber's Walker Now directory line up across the week. Only Lundrigans and Walker General Store mark their schedules as winter hours. For everyone else, these are the listed hours, so a quick call before a weekday trip is a good habit.
| Business | Address | Listed hours |
|---|---|---|
| Lundrigans Clothing | 501 Minnesota Ave. | Wed to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| Walker General Store | 507 Minnesota Ave. W. | Wed to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| Peculiar Painter | 405 Front St. NW | Wed to Sat, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. |
| Village Square Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor | 411 Minnesota Ave. | Wed to Sun, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; closed Mon and Tue |
| The Piggy BBQ of Walker | 607 Minnesota Ave. | Wed to Sat, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sun 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed Mon and Tue |
| Sunbeam & Company | 504 Minnesota Ave. W. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Sun |
| Art & Antique Mall of Walker | 406 Minnesota Ave. W. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Sun |
| TJ's Floral | 403 Minnesota Ave. W. | Mon to Fri, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sat 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
| Jenny & Company Walker | 500 Minnesota Ave. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
| Tiger Lily's Boutique | 506 Minnesota Ave. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
| Terra Reflections | 513 Minnesota Ave. W. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
| Heritage Gifts | 414 Minnesota Ave. W. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
| Christmas Point Wild Rice Co. | 523 Minnesota Ave. | Mon to Sat, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Sun 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters | 522 Minnesota Ave. | Daily, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. |
On a Saturday, every business in the table is open. On a Sunday, eight of the fourteen are. On a Monday or Tuesday, Lundrigans, Walker General Store, Peculiar Painter, Village Square and The Piggy are all closed, so you can still find gifts at places like Reeds, Christmas Point or Jenny & Company, but a full downtown loop isn't possible. If you're planning a shopping day for the rest of the year, Wednesday through Saturday is when the whole street is open.
Dinner downtown runs later. Benson's Eating & Drinking Emporium at 400 Minnesota Ave. lists hours of 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday. Bayside Bar & Grill at 412 Minnesota Ave. lists its kitchen as open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. On Front Street, the Spencer Ross American Legion Post #134 at 407 Front St. lists its kitchen hours as 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Red Tickets Pick Up Where the Bingo Cards End
Ten days after Does Hunt, the Chamber's second promotion starts and runs through the rest of the holiday season. The Red Ticket Great Gift Card Giveaway rewards local spending with tickets for prize drawings. One Chamber listing has it starting Tuesday, November 17. Another says Wednesday, November 18. Both end on December 31, 2026.
Here's how it works, according to the Chamber's giveaway page:
- Spend $10 at a participating business and get 1 Red Ticket.
- You can earn up to 40 tickets per transaction, so a $400 purchase gets you the maximum on one receipt.
- Participating businesses are spread across Walker and the wider Leech Lake Area.
- The grand prize is $1,000 in local gift cards, with more prize drawings beyond that.
This promotion makes the Wednesday-to-Saturday week even more useful. It runs six weeks, so the shops open four days a week will hand out tickets on fewer days than the ones open daily. If you're saving a big purchase like a fireplace insert, a winter coat or a stack of gifts, it's worth waiting until after the start date so the receipt earns tickets. The Chamber hasn't posted a 2026 list of participating businesses on its event pages. The Chamber office at 201 Minnesota Ave. E. or a call to (218) 507-5770 can tell you which stores are handing out tickets.
What Fills the Weeknights in Between
Weeknights in November are quieter than the weekends, but a few dates stand out.
- Tuesday, November 10. The Chamber calendar lists Friends of Walker Public Library for 5 to 6 p.m.
- Thursday, November 19. Lonestar plays Northern Lights Casino at 8 p.m. The casino is at 6800 Y Frontage Rd. NW.
- Any night, Monday included. Tacos De La Calle, a drive-through and grab-and-go Mexican spot at 401 Cleveland Blvd. W., opened on January 8, 2026, and lists daily hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. In a month when several downtown kitchens close Monday and Tuesday, a place that's open daily is handy.
Northern Lights Casino also has an evening show on deer opener Saturday. Its calendar lists Hunks 2026 at 8 p.m. on November 7. If you finish your bingo card at Portage, there's still time to get there.
Thanksgiving Weekend Is the Festival of Lights
The month ends with the event that has opened Walker's Christmas season since 1995. The Festival of Lights is set for Thanksgiving weekend, November 27 and 28. The Chamber says the weekend starts Friday with the Holiday Parade.
The festival page lists:
- The Main Street parade downtown
- Santa and live reindeer
- A community tree lighting
- Christmas caroling downtown
- Arts and crafts, plus holiday shopping
- A Toy Drive and Food Drive
The Chamber's committee notes also mention cookie decorating and a kids' party at the Walker Bay Theater. The event listing adds horse-and-buggy rides. Parade and party times for 2026 aren't on the Chamber's page yet, so watch the Festival of Lights Facebook event as the weekend gets closer.
Saturday morning belongs to the Reindeer Ramble, a 2-mile family fun run and walk at Chase on the Lake. It starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 28. Registration is $25 per person and includes the 2026 Signature Reindeer Ramble Beanie. Kids and dogs are welcome, and the Chamber encourages costumes, from holiday characters to anything reindeer-themed. You can sign up through the Reindeer Ramble registration link.
The festival also fits the downtown hours. It falls on a Friday and Saturday, the two days every business in the directory table is open, and it lands inside the Red Ticket window. That means shopping you do between the parade and the Ramble earns tickets toward the Chamber's gift card drawings. The month starts with a Saturday of bingo stamps and ends with a Saturday of reindeer, and both weekends fall in downtown's Wednesday-to-Saturday week. Earlier this fall, Walker's second season was mostly about the forest. In November, it moves back downtown.
