The Deer Opener Punch Card Starts on Main Avenue and Ends Off It

Minnesota's firearms deer season opens Saturday, Nov. 7, and the DNR counts opening weekend as Saturday through Sunday, Nov. 8. For anyone in Park Rapids who isn't spending that weekend in a stand, the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber has put a shopping event on the calendar. It runs only Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7, and finishing the punch card takes at least one drive off Main Avenue.

The event is called Ready. Aim. Shop. – A Lady's Day Out for Deer Hunting Weekend. There are six participating stores. You pick up a punch card at any of them, collect a stamp at each one you visit, and turn in a card with five stamps for a chance at one of six prizes. Four of those six stores sit within a few blocks of each other on Main Avenue South. The other two are a drive away, and you need at least one of them for the fifth stamp.

Four Stamps Within a Few Blocks

The chamber page lists Kathryn's on Main and Lazy Ones as separate stops. On Kathryn's own site, they're two storefronts at two addresses. Kathryn's on Main Boutique is at 117 Main Ave. S, and Kathryn's on Main Lazy One is at 206 Main Ave. S. The chamber's member directory files Lazy One under the 117 address, so go by the shop's own listing when you're walking.

Across the street and a few doors down, Overkil Metals is at 116 Main Avenue South. Rustic Cabin Decor is at 213 Main Ave. S, close to Lazy One.

That makes four stamps across the 100 and 200 blocks of Main Avenue South. Start at either end and you can walk the loop without moving the car. It's a good morning on its own, but a card with four stamps doesn't go into the drawing.

The Fifth Stamp Means a Drive

The last two stores on the card are outside downtown.

Red Barn is at 16338 County 107, Park Rapids, and its homepage says it's open all year. The Tippy Canoe is at 101 Main St. West in Nevis. Nevis has the bigger incentive. The chamber page says a stop at Tippy Canoe earns an extra entry, so a card with all six stamps goes in with better odds than one with five.

That gives you two ways to finish:

  1. Main Avenue plus Red Barn. Walk the four downtown shops, then drive out County 107 for stamp five. You stay in Park Rapids the whole time.
  2. Main Avenue plus Red Barn plus Nevis. All six stamps and the bonus entry. This turns the outing into a two-town day, and Nevis has its own fall rhythm once the summer storefronts close. The Nevis neighborhood page has more on the town.

The chamber page doesn't say where to turn in completed cards. The cards are handed out in-store, so ask at your first stop and you won't be carrying a full card around wondering where it goes.

The Hours Decide the Route

The order of stops matters because the six shops don't keep the same hours. These are the regular hours each one publishes. None of them has posted special hours for the event, so if you're building the day around a particular stop, a quick call ahead is worth it.

Shop Address Listed hours Fri, Nov. 6 Sat, Nov. 7
Kathryn's on Main Boutique 117 Main Ave. S Fall: Mon–Sat 10–5, Sun 11–3 10–5 10–5
Kathryn's on Main Lazy One 206 Main Ave. S Fall: Mon–Sat 10–5, Sun 11–3 10–5 10–5
Overkil Metals 116 Main Ave. S Winter: Wed–Sat 10–5; Mon, Tue, Sun by appointment 10–5 10–5
Rustic Cabin Decor 213 Main Ave. S Mon–Sat 10–5 10–5 10–5
Red Barn 16338 County 107 Wed–Sat 10–4, open all year 10–4 10–4
The Tippy Canoe 101 Main St. West, Nevis Seasonal: Thu–Sat 11–6 11–6 11–6

Red Barn closes first. It's the only stop on the card that closes at 4 p.m. The downtown shops stay open until 5. If Red Barn is your fifth stamp, go there before the walk or in the middle of it, not after.

Tippy Canoe opens last. Its listed hours start at 11 a.m., an hour after everyone else. The chamber directory calls those hours seasonal. That's the one to confirm before you drive to Nevis on the first weekend of November.

All six overlap from 11 to 4. If you want every stamp and the bonus entry in one day, that's your window. One order that fits is Red Barn at opening, Main Avenue through late morning, then on to Nevis after 11 so you arrive while Tippy Canoe is open.

Sunday doesn't count. The event is listed for Friday and Saturday only. Both Kathryn's stores list Sunday hours of 11 to 3, so Sunday still works for browsing on Main Avenue. It just won't help your card.

Friday and Saturday have identical store hours, so the choice between them comes down to what else you want on the calendar that day.

Friday Has an Evening Plan

Friday, Nov. 6, ends with live music. The chamber lists One Night Stand Featuring Kirk Brock at Clancy's Restaurant and Bar, 26333 Icon Dr., Park Rapids. The listing doesn't give a start time, so check with Clancy's before you head over. A Friday of shopping followed by dinner and music at Clancy's keeps Saturday free.

Downtown, the Park Theater schedule shows The Cat in the Hat as coming soon, with a release date of 11/6/2026. Showtimes for opening weekend aren't up yet. The theater is at 107 Main Ave. S, the same block as Kathryn's Boutique, so a matinee fits easily into a Main Avenue afternoon once the schedule is posted.

Saturday Has a Craft Show

Saturday, Nov. 7, is opening day, and it brings a second shopping option. The Fall Craft Show in Wolf Lake runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 130 Manninen Ave, Wolf Lake.

That 3 p.m. close fits neatly with the punch card. The craft show opens an hour before the Park Rapids shops, so you can go to Wolf Lake first and be back on Main Avenue with most of the afternoon left. Doing the Nevis leg too makes for a long day, and a full six-stamp card with the bonus entry is easier on Friday, when nothing else competes for the morning.

Here is one way to split the three days.

  • Friday is for the full card: Red Barn, the Main Avenue walk, Nevis in the afternoon, then Clancy's in the evening.
  • Saturday is for the craft show in the morning and a five-stamp card in the afternoon, with Red Barn before 4.
  • Sunday is for Main Avenue browsing at Kathryn's two stores, with nothing riding on it.

The Weeks After Opener

Once opener weekend is over, the Park Rapids calendar keeps moving through November. Every one of these is listed with a 2026 date:

  • Nov. 14, 2–4 p.m.: Knit-Flicks shows Music and Lyrics at the Park Theater, 107 Main Ave. S. Admission is free.
  • Nov. 19, 7 p.m.: The Heartland Concert Association presents Tommy Ryman at the Area High School Auditorium.
  • Nov. 26: The Park Rapids 12th Annual 5K Turkey Trot is on Thanksgiving Day. The chamber listing doesn't give a time or location yet.

If you followed along as October's weekends got later and later, November reverses that. The opener weekend shops close by 5, and the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot closes out the month. More on the town is on the Park Rapids neighborhood page.

Whether your card ends at Red Barn or in Nevis, I'd love to hear which stops you made and what you found along the way. Ready. Aim. Shop. is a good example of what I enjoy about this part of Minnesota, where a single Friday can take you down Main Avenue and out a county road to the next town over. If that kind of weekend has you thinking about your own next chapter here, Kristine Walsh is always glad to talk it through. Let's Connect.
